Just weeks before the start of softball season, four Spring High School seniors on Friday signed their national letters of intent.

Family and friends gathered together for pictures and cake and congratulated Courtney Schoenemann, Lindsey Brown, Laura Little and Caitlin Wells.

Schoenemann is heading to Sam Houston State; Brown is going to Blinn College; Little to Texas-San Antonio; and Wells to University of Mary Hardin-Baylor.

Spring softball coach Julie Wyrick, who has coached the girls all four years, couldn't have been more excited or proud.

"I'm extremely excited," Wyrick said. "I think each of them have picked very complementary schools for them as players. They are all going to go on and have great careers in college. It's always fun to sit back and watch your kids go off and play and see how they represent the next four years."

Schoenemann, a pitcher and first baseman will study either broadcast journalism or physical therapy at Sam Houston.

"We visited a couple of junior colleges and I didn't really know what I was looking for," Schoenemann said. "My dream was always to play at a Division I school but I never thought it would happen. But once I visited the campus, went to a couple of camps there, met the coach and the team, it felt right. I loved it and it's close to home."

Brown, a pitcher and first baseman, plans on attending Texas A&M after Blinn.

"Rick Church (Blinn coach) was one of my first pitching coaches," Brown said. "I really liked the campus and that it is a two-year school. I think it's going to be fun and I'm going to enjoy it."

Little, a shortstop, fulfilled a lifelong dream by signing with UT-SA.

"Ever since I was little I've wanted to go there," she said. "One of the first softball camps I ever went to was there and when I walked out on the field I knew I wanted to go there."

Wells, a third baseman and utility player, has chosen University of Mary Hardin-Baylor.

"When I went to visit, everyone was really nice," Wells said. "Everybody knew everybody because it's really small. The coach was very nice and they have a great program."

With just one more high school season left, the girls and Wyrick – in her eighth year as coach – are looking forward to this season.

"This season is going to be very exciting," Wyrick said. "We are very fortunate that we returned all but three players. We have a couple of young kids who we hope will step up and fill in those spots. We are also excited that we have a good, young, freshman catcher (Megan Low) this year that is probably going to make a huge difference for us. District-wise, we have a relatively tough one to win."
