First, the Memorial-Stratford boys soccer game was an hour late starting Tuesday night.

Then because of a series of unfortunate circumstances, it never finished.

A start full of penalties and harsh attitudes led to at least two fights in the game at Grob Stadium, leading the referees to call the game in a scoreless tie.

The game didn't start until 8 p.m., an hour after its originally scheduled start time, because one referee was late.

Both teams brought fierce competition even though the wind was brutal. During the first 15 minutes, several penalties were handed down, mostly to Memorial. These penalties apparently sparked harsh attitudes between the teams.

A fight between Memorial and Stratford broke out, after allegedly a Stratford team member shoved a Memorial player, and the Memorial player fought back. This fight sparked a member of Memorial's team to run onto the field and join in.

After that player was handed a red card the game went on. That player who was then handed a red card went on to fight with his father on the sidelines, causing great commotion. The game finally went on, with several other penalties and cards given out.

After a second fight broke out on the field, the head referee called the game.

Both coaches refused comment.

The game was rescheduled for Wednesday. Memorial's Sebastian Karpen scored a second-half goal to guide the Mustangs to a 1-0 win.
