St. Thomas and Second Baptist led local schools last weekend at The Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools wrestling tournament in Dallas, placing fourth and fifth, respectively.
Schools from all over Texas, including St. Thomas, Second Baptist and Fort Bend Baptist, competed for an individual state medal and team state plaque at Bishop Dunne.
Bishop Lynch of Dallas was the overall winner with a score of 308. The program took home 13 individual medals, 10 of which were gold.

Coming in a distant second and third was First Baptist Academy with 159.5 and Trinity Christian Addison (155).
St. Thomas (104) rounded out the team plaques in fourth.
Second Baptist placed fifth with 81 overall team points. The Eagles sent nine wrestlers to the state meet and medaled four.
“The weekend went pretty much as expected,” Second Baptist coach Chuck Carpenter said. “The top four teams are pretty much standard from year to year. We were hoping to break into the top four, but a few of my top wrestlers that I thought would do better, didn’t, but the ones I knew would do well, did.”
The TAPPS season is over but wrestling will continue for some. This upcoming weekend is the Prep State tournament at Episcopal High School followed by the National Prep Meet in Pennsylvania.
Bishop Lynch placed second at the National meet in both 2005 and 2006.
Two individual awards were given at the TAPPS meet: Most Outstanding Wrestler went to Johnny Koepp of Dallas Bishop Lynch; Most Outstanding Wrestler went to Jeff Scovell of Addison Trinity Christian Academy.
