For the second straight year, St. Agnes' girls soccer team saw its season end against Fort Worth Nolan Catholic.

St. Agnes lost a regional final 4-1 on its home field Saturday, one year after it lost to Nolan in the state semifinals.

Nolan advances to next weekend's TAPPS Division I state tournament at TCU.

These two teams “usually don’t get to play each other this early in the playoffs,” Nolan coach Jay Fitzgerald said.

Fitzgerald has led his team to the state semifinals nine of the 10 years he has coached.

Because to the weather, there was a bit of concern about the condition of the field and whether or not the girls would be able to play their game.

“The condition of the field was our concern,” Fitzgerald said. “We like to move it (the ball), and knock it (the ball) around a little so coming into the game that (the condition) was very important.”

Nolan Catholic had four different players score Saturday.

Mallory Baum scored the first goal to get things going. St. Agnes’ Kelly Davis answered from the left upper corner of the goalie box.

That would be the only goal St. Agnes scored.

Morgan Ulliman, a Nolan junior, opened the second half by heading the ball in from the upper left corner.

The game began to get physical and yellow cards were drawn as the girls began to scuffle.

Sarah William and Maygan DiTucci scored the last two goals of the game.

“We lost one of our best players in the third game of the season against Ursuline (Academy) that cause us to have to move some players around,” Fitzgerald said.

Maygan DiTucci was one of those players. DiTucci worked her way up for Junior Varsity recently to help her team advance to the final four.

“We don’t know who we’ll be playing in the semifinals," Fitzgerald said. "It’s frustrating that we had to meet this early, it’s not fair to them (St. Agnes) because there are going to be teams that they would have played very well against.”
