In a dominating fashion, the Cy-Fair girls basketball proved its strength in Region III Tuesday night at the Berry Center by blasting Elsik 60-27 in a regional quarterfinal.

From start to finish, it was all Bobcats (34-2). Not only was Cy-Fair running and gunning, the physical nature of this one included many hard fouls and girls hitting the floor for loose balls.

But according to Cy-Fair coach Ann Roubique, that is how all of the games will be in postseason play.

“There’s a lot at stake and everyone of us want it,” Roubique said. “I don’t care what region you go to, you are going to have the same results (physical games). The desire has everyone wanting that next win. I expect it to be the same (throughout the postseason).”

It was apparent that one of the major keys for success for the Bobcats tonight was the ability to keep pressure on the ball defensively.

Then from that, the transition game sparked by guards Mansa El and Nicole Morris, helped Cy-Fair capitalize on plenty of lay ups.

We’ll take the points however we can get them,” Roubique said. “That (plenty of transition points) just happened to be the case tonight. We try to use our transition game from defense to offense and try to kick and run. When that’s not there, we better able to score in our offensive sets.”

And it was evident that that aspect of the game worked as well. Elsik (25-8) did not have an answer as Nneka Ogwumike had her way in the low post. Once Ogwumike drew a double team, Megan Daniel was there to knock down a few 3-point baskets.

Ogwumike was the game’s leading scorer with 21 points. Teammate and sister Chiney Ogwumike had 11 points while Megan Majewski contributed eight points.

For the Rams, Lateria Wilson led the way with nine points and Adaora Elonu had eight.

Cy-Fair will play Fort Bend Dulles in a regional semifinal at 8 p.m. Friday at the Aldine Campbell Center.

“It’s one game and then there will be another one Friday night. So we’ll enjoy this one and forget quickly and start getting ready for Dulles,” Roubique said. “Dulles is good. Kelsey Bone is a legit 6-foot-5. She is very good and one of the top players in the country. But that’s not the only player they have. They have girls around her who can flat out play.”
