Pearland and Galveston Ball were no match for Fort Bend's Elkins and Bush in a 5A bi-district doubleheader Tuesday night.

Elkins defeated Pearland 57-41 in game one, and in the second game Bush took down Ball 58-43.

In the opening game Elkins got out to a 10-6 first-quarter lead as Pearland kept things close behind four first-quarter points by Aaron Knowles.

After falling behind 12-8 early in the second quarter, Pearland fought back to tie the game at 12 when Lante Phillips sank two free throws with just over six-minutes to go in the half. Moments later Elkins was able to go back out in front for good when Elston Turner drilled a three-pointer for a 15-12 advantage.

Elkins then went on to outscore Pearland 13-4 resulting in a 25-19 haltime lead.

Pearland never threatend again as Elkins extended their lead to 32-21 midway through the third-quarter when Josh Micheaux dunked following an Elkins steal.

Elkins saw its lead shrink to 12 when Pearland's Dorian Prunell scored with just under three minutes to go in the game. However, Elkins was able to build on their lead late in the game and win going away.

"We have four guys that have gone 3 or 4 deep in the playoffs so they know what it is like," Elkins coach Albert Thomas said. "We got to continue to get better on defense. "There is always something you have to work on."

In the second game of the night, Bush Broncos dominated behind a huge effort by 6-foot-10 center Chris Otule.

Otule was overpowering at times as he registered double digit block and points. Ball had no answer for him as he simply took over the game at times.

Bush took a 17-12 lead when Otule got inside for a 2-point basket and then followed with back-to-back blocks on the defensive end.

"Ball is a really good basketball team and they do so many different things," Bush coach Ronnie Courtney said. "I showed them on film how fast they (Ball) are and they were like woe."

Darius Richardson was the benificiary of an Otule block with seconds remaining in the first half when he scored on a fast break resulting in a 24-18 halftime lead.

Bush came out in the second half and extended its lead to 30-20 on yet another Richardson basket, this one a 3-pointer.

Otule continued to assert himself down low and with just under 3-minutes to go in the third quarter he hauled in anoffensive rebound and scored resulting in a 37-24 Bush advantage. Bush went on to build a 42-28 lead when Nate Clayton finished a fast break with a layup.

Larry Durand provided a spark and helped pull the Tors within 43-32 when he scored on two consecutive possessions.

However, Bush responded to each Ball rally and extended their lead to 53-41 when Otule slammed one home with just over two-minutes left in the game.

"Chris is one of those guys that didn't play a whole lot last year and right now he is playing so tremendously well," Courtney said.

Otule led Bush with 13 points.

LaRoy Prior had 14 points and Durand 11 for Ball.
