It’s early in the lacrosse season and on Friday night, Kinkaid (3-2) hosted and defeated Lamar, 7-3.

The Redskins scored their first goal in the first minute of play. Kinkaid had possession near Lamar’s goal, but let the ball fall and Lamar snatched it and threw it in the net. Lamar flirted with another goal at mid-quarter but nothing came of it.

With two minutes left, Kinkaid’s Jarrett Wadler scored a goal, but a penalty took the point away and Lamar led at the end of the first.

But Wadler came out in the second and got his goal back as he threw it past Lamar’s goalie.

At 2:28, Lamar fired another shot past the Falcons for a 2-1 lead going into the half.

“I told them everything we were doing was right,” Kinkaid coach Jeremy Platt said. “I told them not to worry, that we were going to win this game, and they responded very well.”

Very well indeed.

Kinkaid was fired up on the chilly night. The Falcons came out and scored four goals in the third and two in the fourth.

Wadler, an attacker, scored 2 goals. John Shank, a midfield senior, also scored two goals. Zach Stoler, Marshall Crawford, and Andrew Sprague each had one goal a piece with Sprague on two assists.

“We’re growing,” said Platt. “We’ve gotten better every game. Our guys were really patient tonight, and that’s what got us the win.”

One of Kinkaid’s leaders tonight was their senior goalie, Boone Bajgier. He worked well in front of the net and held Lamar to only three goals.

Our goalie (Bajgier) played really, really well,” Platt said. “He did his job back there and helped with our win.”

*Bajgier will be featured early next week as our Athlete of the Week, so be sure to check back.

Platt went on to say about the team, “There have been bumps in the road already. We went up to Dallas and got beat up pretty bad but we came back and were hoping to go 2-0 in Houston and we did that with tonight’s win.”
