It was a beautiful Saturday afternoon for baseball as St. Pius (8-8) hosted Bellaire (19-1) for a non-district, regular season game.

Both teams controlled the scoreboard, but powerhouse Bellaire came out with a 9-6 victory.

The Cardinals were strong in the first three innings of play, scoring two runs in each. In the top of the first, Bellaire had three hits, two stolen bases, a walk, and an RBI to score the two runs. Jarrett Higgins and Jeremy Schaffer were the two players to score.

St. Pius responded by scoring three runs in the bottom of the first. A leadoff walk followed by an error from Bellaire scored Ray Eureste. Two more hits from the Panthers scored two more runs to take the lead, 3-2.

The Cardinals scored their next two runs on two walks, one St. Pius error, and an RBI from Schaffer with the bases loaded.

And again, St. Pius answered Bellaire with two more runs for a 5-4 lead.

Bellaire brought in two more for the third consecutive inning to take a 6-5 lead.

The Panthers tied the game at 6-all on a hit, walk, sac bunt and an RBI.

The fifth inning was quiet for both teams but in the top of the sixth, the Cardinals punched out two more runs.

A leadoff walk started the rally. Schaffer then hit a double to score Alex Silver. Another double from Kyle Chaskin put a runner in scoring position as Will McCaleb got a hit to score the insurance run.

The Cardinals scored one final run in the top of seven on a homerun by Andrew Burns.
