(Seven Lakes VS. Lamar Con.)
Two overtimes and a shootout resulted in Cinco Ranch's 3-2 victory against Eisenhower in a 5A area playoff game at Rhodes Stadium Friday night.
The Cougars and the Eagles finished regulation scoreless. The aggressive play and great defense prevented either team from scoring.
Cinco Ranch (18-0) played incredibly tough and very physical, yet Eisenhower always seemed to have an answer. Eagles senior defender Jonny Amaya proved to be strong in the back field. The Cougars did not get the ball into the goalie box much.
Eagles goalkeeper Carlos Naranjo had two critical saves in the game.
Going into the second overtime, intensity was high as the game remained scoreless.
In the shootout, Henry Villafranco and Jesslore Macias scored for Eisenhower. Aria Shirani, Juan Jose Nino and Stuart Howard scored for the Cougars.
Howard scored the game-winning goal.
Cinco Ranch will play District 18-5A and Katy ISD rival Mayde Creek Tuesday, likely at Rhodes Stadium.
4A girls: Lamar Consolidated 1, Seven Lakes 0
Luisa Teran scored with about six minutes left and Lamar Consolidated ended 24-4A rival Seven Lakes' season at Rhodes Stadium.
Teran dribbled the ball quickly up the field, her quickness and size proving to be an advantage. Teran shot the ball from the upper right corner of the goalie box. Blocked but not caught by Kristin Hartmann, Teran finished the play with a second attempt.
