Elsik, Taylor stand out in 18-5A field finals

Alief Taylor’s Morgan Pressley won two field events Monday to stand out after the first day of the District 18-5A track and field championships at Cinco Ranch.

Pressley won the long jump (18-10.5) and triple jump (38-10) to pace a solid effort for Taylor. DeAndre Thompson and Donte Eliott swept the boys triple jump, going 46-11 and 45-5 respectively; and Emily Nnokwan was second in the discus (137-6) and fourth in the shot put (35-7).

Cinco Ranch’s girls flashed their depth and claimed two wins.

Sonate DanPrincewell
tied for first in the high jump with Mayde Creek’s Tanika Burch – both went 5-4 – and the Cougars took three of the top four spots in the 3,200. Alyse Goldsmith won in 11:30.84, followed by runner-up Alli Keithan (11:39.3) and Jessica Pagano in fourth (12:00.87).

Running preliminaries took place ahead of Tuesday’s scheduled 5 p.m. finals.

Mayde Creek’s boys got wins from Sheriff Thomas in the high jump (6-4), Justin Roberson in the shot put (49-.75) and Collin Durham in the two-mile (9:40.36).

Elsik’s Okwe Ogolie won the discus (140-0) and was second in the shot put (37-11) to Morton Ranch’s Nicole Benton (38-10.5).

The Rams’ Michael Tate won the discus (151-6.5). Katy’s Trent Hunter, a Texas A&M football signee, won the long jump (23-4.25).

Katy Taylor’s Brooke Meyer won the pole vault (10-0).
