Two local state championship football players and three area boys basketball players were among the Houston-area student-athletes named Tuesday to participate in the Texas High School Coaches Association football and boys basketball all-star games in July in San Antonio.

Katy receiver/defensive back Trent Hunter, a Texas A&M signee, and Lamar Consolidated receiver Chuck Obi lead the area’s representation in the football game, scheduled for 7:30 p.m. July 29 at the Alamodome. Other local players in the game – all playing for the South team – will be Cypress Falls receiver Darius Bolden (a Rice commit), Eisenhower defensive lineman Rod Davis (Texas A&M), Cypress Ridge receiver Royce Hill (North Texas) and Stratford defensive lineman Jimmy Burge (Missouri).

Also participating is Angleton running back/defensive back D.J. Monroe, a Texas signee who had a standout performance in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl. He made three solo tackles, recovered a fumble and caused an interception in the game in January in San Antonio.

The basketball game, scheduled for 7:30 p.m. July 28 at Bill Greehey Arena at St. Mary’s University, will feature local talents Abel Galliguez of Fort Bend Dulles (John Brown College), Cypress Springs’ Phillip MacDonald (New Mexico) and Katy Taylor’s Corbin Ray (Texas Tech).
