Rugby is a fast paced game similar to American Football. The biggest difference is that every player on the field can run, pass and kick the ball and every player is expected to make tackles also.
The Rugby community is a unique group of athletes (and a group of unique athletes) who dare to try something different. Rugby is a "contact" sport, but not a brutal sport. In fact it is much less violent than American Football.
Rugby is a game of sportsmanship.
You address the Referee as "sir" and when you score, there is not end zone dancing. At the end of the match you shake hands with your opponents and talk with them about the game you just played. Rugby and the players are different than other sports, because you leave everything on the field. Off the field... you're friends.
Many people may not get the opportunity to play college sports. Rugby may be the outlet you're looking for. It offers competition, camaraderie, strength, speed and agility.
Rugby is played across the USA, from youth organizations to High Schools, Colleges & Universities and Club Side for adults for both men and women. USA Rugby is our governing body and they host National Championships for all levels of Rugby.
Rugby is second in popularity to Soccer. Like Soccer; Rugby has its own World Cup Competition. Rugby is played in many countries like New Zealand, Australia, South Africa, Japan, England, Wales, Ireland, France, Italy, Samoa, China, Argentina and Kenya to name a few.
Many people who play this game say it's like being in a universal fraternity or sorority. Meaning that, no matter where you go in the world, if they play Rugby, you have a friend and a place to play, if you're looking.
Successful Rugby does require fitness, but first and foremost it requires that special person who's ready, willing and able to give it a go.
