Rounding up a varied sports scene and taking your suggestions:

Several area bi-district softball matchups have been decided. The Katy ISD and Cy-Fair ISD schools have decided their series, but Spring Branch and Houston ISD schools in 19- and 20-5A won’t meet until Tuesday morning to set dates and times.

Perhaps the area’s premier series will be between Fort Bend Elkins and Alvin, two of the area’s premier teams.

The 17-5A vs. 18-5A games are as follows:

- Cinco Ranch and Cypress Springs will have a one-game playoff at 6 p.m. Thursday at Morton Ranch.

- Katy will host Cy-Fair in a one-game playoff at 6 p.m. Thursday.

- Cypress Falls will host every game in its best-of-three series with Katy Taylor. Games will be at 6:30 p.m. Thursday and Friday and, if necessary, at 1 p.m. Saturday.

- Mayde Creek will host Cypress Woods in Game 1 at 6 p.m. Thursday and, if needed, for Game 3 at 2 p.m. Saturday. Game 2 will be at 6 p.m. Friday at Cy Woods.

In 20-5A, Lamar and Bellaire tied for the regular-season championship but the Redskins won the coin toss to get the district’s top seed for the tournament. Lamar will play 19-5A fourth-place finisher Spring Woods; Bellaire will play Nimitz.

Memorial, which won its tiebreaker with MacArthur to get 19-5A’s top spot, drew Chavez for the first round. MacArthur will play Westside.

Full brackets will be updated here.

Lacrosse all-star teams released

Five Cy-Fair players highlight the Texas High School Lacrosse League Division II all-state team released recently.

Cy-Fair Ironmen honorees were senior attackers Travis Tabb and Taylor McKay, midfielders Taylor Brooks and Michael Mann, and senior defenseman J.D. Eckster.

Four SWLC players were honored – attacker Walter Colt, midfielder Nghia Tran, left side mid player Todd Ten Have and goalie Grant Williams. Memorial honorees were midfielder Jonathan Heidt and defenseman David Berry.

Mustangs sophomore Robert Sauermann made all-district, a team which also featured Cinco Ranch’s Jacob McPherson (attack), Greg Kremen (LSM) and Dustin O’Donnell (defenseman).

Complete teams are listed below.

Deserving of the accolades

Eisenhower defensive back Craig Loston upheld his reputation as one of the region’s top defensive backs Saturday at a combine in Dallas, according to Scout.com.

Loston, ranked No. 14 nationally, was the highest-ranked player at the event. Scout.com’s Alan Zepeda wrote, “He is a playmaker and was constantly among the top performers at the various testings and drills.”

Loston, who is considering Clemson, Texas A&M and LSU among many other schools, had 65 tackles and three interceptions last year for the Eagles. He is the cousin of Cypress Ridge quarterback Russell Shepard, who committed to LSU in March.
