Memorial hit two home runs in the first inning Tuesday night and cruised to an 11-3 victory at Stratford in a District 19-5A baseball game.
Daniel Neumann hit two home runs for the district champion Mustangs, who led 4-0 after a half-inning. Stratford got within 6-3 in the fourth on home runs by Mark Benninger and Andrew Mitchell, but the Mustangs broke the game open with two runs in the fifth and three in the sixth.
Neumann has 12 home runs for Memorial, which improved to 22-4 overall and 13-0 in the district. They close the regular season Friday at home against Spring Woods.
Stratford's loss dealt a tough blow to its hopes of making the postseason. The Spartans fell to 7-6 in the district, a half-game behind MacArthur. The Generals play Aldine, the sixth-place team in 19-5A, on Wednesday.
Stratford finishes its regular season Friday at second-place Nimitz. Nimitz and Spring Woods, both of which won Tuesday night, have clinched postseason berths.
