A group of Fort Bend ISD players made an impact on the first day of the Region III-5A tennis tournament Tuesday at the South campus of Deer Park High School.
No. 2 seed Audrey Wooland from Dulles beat Kingwood’s Lauren Jay and Northbrook’s Huong Huynh in straight sets on her way to the semis and will face Cinco Ranch’s Paige Rachel on Wednesday.
Maya Zein of Hightower dominated her first two opponents, beating Bellaire’s Amanda Alexander 6-0, 6-4 and Tamra Bryson of La Porte 6-0, 6-0 to advance to the semifinals. She will face top-seed Kourtney Howell of Cypress Woods.
In doubles, the Katy Taylor team of Audrey Tompkins and Alex Henry won its two matches against the Dulles team and the Deer Park team in 6-1, 6-1 fashion to advance to the semis, where they will face the Memorial team of Vina Ravichandran and Christie Davis.
Carlene Leyden and Monica Pieratt of Stratford advances with a 6-0, 6-0 win over the Clements team of Audrey Wang and Kim Pang.
In mixed doubles, Clear Lake had two teams advance to the semis. Top seeds Amanda DiCarlo and Brandon Farine cruised past their two opponents and will face the Memorial team of Jamie Krasnov and Sarah Gillespie.
The other Lake team of Raj Jana and Adriana Ocon will face Neil Schneider and Mia Matuszak of Katy Taylor, who knocked off the Clements team of Alex Lam and Jessica Gains 6-0, 6-3 to reach the semifinals.
