St. Agnes, St. Thomas shine in TAPPS state tournaments

St. Agnes’ girls and St. Thomas’ boys golf teams led local representation this week at the TAPPS state golf tournaments across Texas.

Both teams placed third in 6A competition in San Antonio.

Catherine Herrara led St. Agnes to a third-place finish. Herrera shot 182 and tied for sixth overall; the team shot 817.

Dallas Bishop Lynch freshman Amy Ruengmateekhun shot a second-round 79 on Tuesday to pace her team to its first title. Bishop Lynch shot 689.

St. Thomas shot 642 to place third. Eric Lodge paced the Eagles with rounds of 77 and 74 to shoot 151, fifth overall. John Herrare added a 160, Michael Rogers 163, Cameron Fanning 168 and David Koch 171 for St. Thomas.

In the 5A tournaments at Doral Tesoro in Fort Worth, Second Baptist’s boys tied for fourth and Houston Christian finished fourth alone. Second Baptist shot 689 and Houston Christian 851.

First names were not provided for these teams.

Fort Bend Baptist’s girls finished sixth (908). Cayla Schaner paced the team with rounds of 99 and 102.

In the 4A tournament at Westridge Golf Course in McKinney, Kori Frank shot 177 to lead Katy Faith West to a sixth-place finish. Faith West shot 885.

Led by Isabelle Borgen’s 287, St. Thomas’s girls were seventh in 4A (997).

Faith West’s boys finished eighth (764), led by Mitchell Frank’s 162.
