AUSTIN - Albert Miner and Janell Lysack each shot 73 and are in second-place in their respective state golf tournaments, and the Seven Lakes boys team is second after one day of the 4A state meet at Jimmy Clay Golf Course.
Miner and Lysack both shot 1-under 35 on the back nine holes, which for Miner was his front nine because the boys team teed off from No. 10.
Seven Lakes shot 310 as a team, 16 shots behind defending state champion Dallas Highland Park.
"Albert just put the ball in the middle of the fairway," Spartans coach Sean Ewing said. "If you're not in the middle of the fairway here, it's tough sometimes to get pars because there are a lot of trees.
"Janell was the same way. They both shot very well."
Other Spartans scores were: Ryan Hadash (75), Trey Sullivan (79), Juan Espiga (83) and Brian Swanson (86).
"As a team we're not totally pleased with our first-day performance but we still have control over what happens to us," Ewing said. "First-place is probably out of our reach unless Dallas Highland Park has a huge collapse tomorrow. They played like they had to."
