James Scott, a senior-to-be and one of the Strake Jesuit football team's most promising athletes, officially committed to SMU on Thursday.

Scott, who played mostly free safety a year ago for the Crusaders, said he long had hoped to commit to SMU. He stands 6-foot-1, 185 pounds.

Scott told Scout he received the offer from SMU coach June Jones on Tuesday.

“Now I know that I will get the opportunity to play college football for sure,” Scott said. “It’s a private school, a great education and a chance to play football. Those are all things that are very important to me.”
