The Spring Branch ISD Board of Trustees recently voted to name the district’s new fieldhouse after former coach, teacher and administrator Mike Williamson.

Williamson worked in Spring Branch ISD from 1961-2001, the last 22 as District Athletic Director and later Executive Director of Athletics. He started as a history teacher and football, basketball and track coach at Spring Woods Junior High School, was Memorial’s head baseball coach from 1963-66 and coached football for the Mustangs from 1969-75.

He was named Assistant Athletic Director in 1976 and was promoted to District Athletic Director in 1979.

Williamson was inducted into the Texas High School Athletic Directors Association Hall of Honor in 1998.

Spring Branch ISD opened its new $15 million athletic complex and field house March 11. The previous building had been in place since 1965.
