The Houston Area Baseball Coaches Association held its annual summer scouting combine Monday afternoon at Houston Baptist University for area senior players who haven’t signed to a college and for select juniors who were nominated by their coach.
The combine brought several players from across the Houston area and outlying areas, including Conroe, Needville and Manvel.
The camp was held by several area coaches, who tested the players in running, throwing speed, and hitting.
The event kicked off the HABCA All-Star week. Four different all-star games will take place this week at Rice University’s Reckling Park.
The games start Tuesday with the 4A/3A/2A all-star game at 4:30 p.m., followed by the Northwest 5A All-Stars against the Northeast 5A All-Stars at 7:30 p.m. The Northwest team is full of talent from Cy-Fair ISD and Katy ISD, including Katy outfielder Joey Fuda, Strake Jesuit pitcher Jeff McVaney and Cy-Fair outfielder Robbie Grossman.
On Wednesday, the Southwest 5A All-Stars face the Southeast 5A All-Stars at 4:30 p.m., then there will be a Junior All-Star game at 7:30 p.m. Tickets for each game cost $5.
