To say the ink used to write Kirby Kramer’s name wasn’t dried when she won the Houston Junior Golf-Performance Series event Tuesday at Memorial Park is a bit of a stretch.

But because she was one of the last entrants in the event, the Langham Creek sophomore’s name was the only one written by hand.

Using this two-day event as a warmup of sorts for a match play tournament the next three days at Memorial Park, Kramer shot 38 on the back nine to finish at 17-over par 161 and earn a one-shot victory over Emily Gilbreth of Bellaire in the Girls 13-15 bracket.

“I was a little nervous coming in but I was excited,” said Kramer, who lost last week’s Performance Series tournament by a stroke. “I made a few more putts on the back. I missed some birdie opportunities from four and five feet but I tried my best.”

Kramer shot 83 in Monday’s first round at The Houstonian and came out Tuesday and shot 40 on the front nine.

J.T. Taylor, a junior at Conroe, shot 144 to win Boys 16-18 by two strokes over Sean Madera of Houston.

Taylor who shot an identical 74-70 to win the first Performance Series event in June at Cypresswood, didn’t have a bogey on the front nine and birdied twice on the back.

Kyle Johnson of Houston was third, four shots back, followed by J.D. Allison and Memorial High School’s Greg Rochna five back.

“It (the course) fits my game. I hit a lot of greens,” said Taylor, who called the course “old-fashioned” because of its lack of bunkers. “What you see is what you get. I hit the ball well. The greens are pretty much plain-jane. These greens were a little longer than (Monday) but I had a good feeling about today so I just came out and played. … As long as I kept putting the pressure on, I didn’t feel like anyone was going to catch me.”

Lamar Consolidated golfers dominated Girls 16-18. Ryanne Haddow won with a 155, and teammate Katelyn McDougal shot 159 and won a two-hole playoff for third-place against two others, including teammate Gabriella Rosales.

“I was just hitting the ball well and I was able to shoot 1-under on the back side. I got tired but I was able to stay focused and have some consistency,” said Haddow, a second-year golfer. “I was even through a few and I ended up bogeying but I came in with a nice 15-foot birdie putt on a par-3 (the last on the front side).

“The greens were slower and the fairway was much narrower. It made me focus.”

Corey Hayford of Friendswood shot 140 to win Boys 13-15.
