The second day of the Houston Water Polo’s Jalapeno League Division II tournament at Strake Jesuit saw a tight boys 18-and-under championship game, while the girls game was delayed because of rain.

In the boys title match, Bayou (a combined team of Stratford and Jersey Village players) had to hold off a final charge by a gritty Tomball team. After leading by as much as five goals going into the fourth period, Tomball rallied late to pull within one goal. But Bayou held on for the 14-13 win.

Goals were scored by Billy Schoellwan, Michael Bishop and John Wilkes.

In the girls championship match, the Atascocita Eagles won 8-3 over Alvin, but that game was paused in the first period after a thunderstorm halted play for about 45 minutes.

“The storm didn’t bother us,” Atascocita coach Ryan Schardell said. “We played well and worked hard.”

Eagle goals were scored by Laurel Pinkles and by Amanda Colvin.

The tournament continues Thursday with the 14-and-under teams starting their play from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and the 12-and-under teams playing from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Admission is $5.
