Nine Katy ISD seniors recently were awarded 2008 Soccer Depot I-10 Shootout scholarships.

The recipients were as follows by school: Cinco Ranch – defenseman Stephanie Brown, Kayla Blincow and Valerie Whitt; Katy Taylor – goalkeeper Natalie Strabala (also the District 18-5A Defensive Player of the Year) and Juliana Bortka; Katy – Amanda Mikeska and Erica De La Fuente; Seven Lakes – Marissa Anselmo; Morton Ranch – defender Damaris Alvarez.

Cinco Ranch’s girls won their eighth consecutive district championship in 2008, and both Katy and Katy Taylor advanced to the Region III-5A semifinals.

Additionally, the field for the 2009 I-10 Shootout has been announced. Games will be played Jan. 15-17 at Cinco Ranch, Katy Taylor, Seven Lakes, Morton Ranch, Mayde Creek and Rhodes Stadium. An exact schedule will be announced later.

Participating teams are: Cinco Ranch, Katy, Katy Taylor, Mayde Creek, Morton Ranch, Seven Lakes, Kingwood Park, Memorial, Cypress Creek, Montgomery, Cypress Springs, Pearland, Pearland Dawson, Deer Park, Friendswood, Bastrop, Waller, The Woodlands, Stratford, Brazoswood, Manvel, McKinney Boyd, Kingwood, Klein, Cypress Woods, Cy-Fair, Klein Oak, Austin Westlake, Clear Lake, Bryan, Clear Brook and Lamar Consolidated.
