With only a month left in the summertime, high school golfers are getting their final strokes in the Houston Golf Association’s Junior Golf summer season.

In the event Monday at the Houston National Golf Course, over 100 high school players from across the area played in the seventh week of Junior Golf play, trying to increase cumulative scores from all summer long to win the season-long tournament.

Seven Lakes junior Charlie Peters took first in the boys 16-18 Weekly Series division, shooting a 3-over par 75 on a hot and humid course. Peters, who was part of the Spartans’ squad that won Region III-4A in the spring, felt that he has improved his game since the summer started.

“I had a couple of holes that I could have improved on,” he said. “(Today) was more practice for the upcoming tournaments.”

Peters finished three strokes ahead of Andrew Boulet of Houston, who shot a 76 and four ahead of Forrest Lindsay, who had a 79.

Peters’ Spartan teammate, senior Zach Smalls, won the Performance Series division by shooting a 71, four strokes ahead of Kevin McArthur and five ahead of Zach Garrels.

In the 13-15 Performance Series, Michael Hannigan won the boys division with the best score of the day, a 4-under 68. Langham Creek's Kirby Kramer won the girls division by shooting a 76.
