Chad Washington’s 10 games for 2008:
Zero Week: Eisenhower at Fort Bend Hightower, Aug. 29 at Hall Stadium.
While Katy-North Shore has all the makings of a classic, the better game might be in Missouri City, where two very athletic teams (each with a bevy of Division I college talent) could determine who will be the top Houston-area team, especially if Katy knocks off North Shore.
Week One: Cypress Falls at Westfield, Sept. 4 at George Stadium.
Another good matchup with two area powers going at it. Westfield may be a bit down from its glory days, but the Mustangs are still a tough team to deal with. Kolby Gray and the Cy Falls offense gets a real test before…
Week Two: North Shore at Cypress Falls, Sept. 12 at Berry Center.
Dave may not want to put any more North Shore games on his schedule, but this one is really going to be good. Hopefully after playing Katy and Ike, the Mustangs have enough in the tank to take on a high-powered Eagle offense.
Week Three: Fort Bend Hightower vs. Fort Bend Marshall, Sept. 18 at Mercer Stadium.
It’s a shame the best Fort Bend ISD game is so early in the season. Both teams have talent on both sides of the ball, and this game has been an entertaining one for the last few years.
Week Four: Elsik vs. Hastings, Sept. 26 at Crump Stadium.
Being a Hastings graduate, there is nothing like the Elsik-Hastings game because of how Alief ISD divides students into both schools. A computer selects which child goes to each school, meaning you have one person going to Elsik and the neighbor going to Hastings. That creates a big-time rivalry, especially since both teams are pretty good this season.
Week Five: Weston (Fla.) Cypress Bay at Katy, Oct. 4 at Rhodes Stadium.
By rule journalists are supposed to be impartial, but I’m rooting for Katy in this one. If Katy is the best Texas high school football has to offer, then a win over a strong program in Florida will not only put Katy on the national map, but will also be a big boost for the state.
Week Six: Cypress Ridge vs. Cy-Fair, Oct. 11 at Berry Center.
Another good Cy-Fair ISD game this weekend. Can Russell Shepard and the Rams take out a pretty good Bobcat team? You never know in these rivalry games. Also, Klein vs. Westfield will be another good one this weekend.
Week Seven: Pasadena Memorial at Pearland, Oct. 17 at The Rig.
These two teams will be grinding it out. Both the Mavericks and Oilers love to chew up yards, and this has the makings of a defensive battle. I bet the first team to 17 points wins.
Week Eight: Aldine vs. Eisenhower, Oct. 25 at Thorne Stadium.
Aldine will be the heavy underdog, but in a rivalry game, the Mustangs could be a tough nut for Ike to crack. The Eagles better be on upset alert for this one. The Hastings-Strake Jesuit game is also an interesting one to watch.
Week Nine: Seven Lakes vs. Cinco Ranch, Oct. 31 at Rhodes Stadium.
I know Seven Lakes hasn’t been much of a power in football, but I think the Spartans match up well with the Cougars in this one. Don’t be surprised if Seven Lakes pulls out the upset. Another good game up north is The Woodlands hosting Lufkin.
Week Ten: Beaumont West Brook at North Shore, Nov. 7 at Galena Park ISD Stadium.
After a grueling schedule, this could be a trap game for North Shore. The Bruins are very talented on offense, and could pull an upset on the road. Another one is the Elkins-Hightower game, which could end up being a shootout.
