Virtually all athletic events in area school districts are being canceled in anticipation of Tropical Storm Edouard.

Katy, Spring Branch, Houston, Aldine, Pasadena, Galena Park, Fort Bend, Lamar Consolidated, Spring, Humble, Goose Creek, La Porte, Channelview, Alvin, La Marque, Santa Fe and Clear Creek independent school districts among others called off nearly all activities, including fall sports practices, ahead of the storm’s likely arrival early Tuesday.

Cy-Fair ISD announced late Monday afternoon it will remain open until further notice. Its press release read:

CFISD will be monitoring weather reports caused by Tropical Storm Edouard throughout the evening. Should inclement weather result in closing district and campus facilities, information will be posted on www.cfisd.net and sent to television, radio and print media by 6 a.m.

Although current plans are for activities to continue, it is understood that parents will make individual decisions regarding their children.

Winds of at least 50 mph are expected as well as several inches of rain, more in southern areas than in Houston and places north. Some forecasts call for the storm to make landfall on Galveston Island, but some projections Monday afternoon indicated the storm could take a northern turn and possibly land east of Houston near the Texas-Louisiana border, a move similar to that of Hurricane Rita in September 2005.

Katy ISD’s New Coaches and Head Coaches training that was scheduled for Tuesday has been rescheduled for Thursday at the Katy High School library.

Athletes should contact their individual team coaches for more information.
