The Houston Tennis Association will hold a Zone Advancement Tournament (ZAT) Sept. 6-7 to benefit the HTA/NJTL (National Junior Tennis League) free Houston youth tennis program.

Hewlett Packard is the sponsor.

Deadline to enter the tournament, which is headquartered at Lee LeClear Tennis Center, 9506 S. Gessner Rd., is Aug. 24.

Non-qualified junior players may enter to earn points for championship status.

The NJTL was established in 1969 by tennis pros Arthur Ashe, Charlie Pasarell and Sheridan Snyder to develop the character of young people through tennis.

Houston’s free youth tennis program is offered at a variety of public parks throughout the year by the Houston Parks and Recreation Department in partnership with the nonprofit 501 (c)(3) HTA. The program is designed to provide children with the fundamentals of the game of tennis and educational components that develop life skills.

For more information call the HTA at (281) 580-8313 or visit www.houstontennis.org and click on Sept ZAT (HTA/NJTL) under "Hot News." The tournament ID# is 809660-308.
