For the second consecutive year, two Cy-Fair ISD teams will play in front of a national television audience.

The Oct. 16 game between Cypress Falls and Cypress Ridge will be televised on ESPNU at 7 p.m. This game features two star quarterbacks in Cy Ridge’s Russell Shepard and Kolby Gray of Cy Falls.

In 2007, ESPN2 aired the Cy Falls/Cy-Fair game, which saw the Eagles win 49-37. Meanwhile, Cy Ridge makes its national TV debut in just its sixth year having a varsity football program.

The Cypress Falls-Cypress Ridge matchup is one of 18 high school games to be featured this season as part of the 2008 ESPN Old Spice High School Showcase.

“We’re excited about the opportunity to showcase our football team and CFISD,” Cy Ridge head coach Gary Thiebaud said. “It’s a great matchup between us and Cy Falls. They experienced this once before last year, and now we get to experience it too.

“We’ve had family members of our players from around the state and the country who have called to make sure they can see their nephew or cousin play on TV. This kind of exposure generates a lot of interest in our young program.”

Both Cy Falls and Cy Ridge also will play in locally televised games on KTBU-Ch. 55. Cy Falls’ Sept. 4 game at Westfield will air at 7 p.m., while Cypress Ridge’s Sept. 11 game at Cinco Ranch will air at 7 p.m.

ESPNU also revealed the ESPNU 150 Class of 2009 this week. Cy Ridge senior quarterback Russell Shepard, a commitment to Louisiana State University, was ranked No. 2 on the list.
