Has the crown passed from the state semifinalists to a startup program in Cy-Fair ISD volleyball?

Probably not – at least for now – but the Cypress Woods volleyball team served notice Saturday that they’re more than a passing fancy in the area. The Wildcats won the Cy-Fair ISD tournament, defeating The Woodlands 25-23, 25-21 at the Berry Center.

Cy Woods, which opened in 2006 and only this year has its first senior class, got 14 kills, a block and an ace from Daniela Arenas and 10 kills, two blocks and an ace from Desiree Elliott in the finals. They defeated the Bobcats in the semifinals.

Brittany Randle had six kills for The Woodlands. Katie Messing added four kills, a block and an ace.

The Bobcats, state semifinalists last year, took third place by defeating Kingwood 27-25, 25-19.

Also Saturday, Klein Oak swept Langham Creek 25-19, 25-15 in the fifth-place game. In the seventh-place game, Klein edged Cypress Creek 25-20, 24-26, 25-20.
