While the Second Baptist boys and girls basketball teams were playing St. Johns during the annual Flight Night, the Eagle wrestling team hosted a match on campus. Wrestlers from Friendswood, The Woodlands, and Second Baptist squads all hit the mat multiple times.

Though the official score was not recorded, it was evident the Eagles were the clear-cut  winners. Second Baptist, a TAPPS Division I school, battled
4A (Friendswood) and 5A (The Woodlands) schools and handled the competition well.

In the 130-pound weight class, Eagle wrestler Brandon Savino defeated Tyler O’Brien. Andrew Payne (SBS-135) pinned Chris Clausen and Omar Evan.

Ben Adams (SBS-160) was the victor against Friendswood’s Josh VanWagenen and Conner Kelley (SBS-189) defeated the Woodlands’ Cody Davis.

Many of the wrestlers competed at least twice, some even went up a weight class and battled a heavier opponent. The Eagles’ Walker Young faced Nick Hemp in the 171-pound weight class and won by pin.

Later Young bumped up to the 189-pound weight class and defeated Nick Brown in the second round. With more than 25 wrestlers total, the SBS wrestling match was full of intensity, brute, and strength.
