The Stratford Spartans dueled it out Thursday night against the Clements Rangers at the Spring Branch Natatorium. It was the Spartans' ‘final tune-up’ before district as Stratford coach Michael Haskovel put it.

“We are coming off a great season,” said Haskovel. “Our girls beat Memorial for the first time in several years and our guys came close.”

The Spartans are coming off a rough swim during the holidays where they faced Fort Bend Austin. However, Coach Haskovel felt it was a good meet that allowed them to work off the rust from the holidays.

The Clements Lady Rangers were a good test for the Lady Spartans as they have been district winners the last several years.

“They will be a good measuring stick for us as we head into district,” explained Haskovel.

The Lady Spartans will be looking to Catherine Maclean, Carline Eustice, and Lilly Marrow to be strong forces in district match ups. As for the guys, Hunter Bayley and Michael Bishop have been dominant swimmers throughout the season.

“We are very pumped about district,” said Bishop. “We get here every morning at 5:30 and work really hard so we will be prepared.”

The district championship meet will be held at the Spring Branch Natatorium on January 26-27.
