The battle of the 19-5A Mustangs took place Friday night when Aldine hosted Memorial. This game was full of fouls, screaming fans, and Mustang excitement.
Intensity remained high throughout the entire game. In the end, Aldine left the court with a substantial 73-41 victory. In the first quarter, both teams battled to gain any kind of momentum. With aggressive play by both teams, several fouls were called. By halftime, 16 fouls (10 Memorial, 6 Aldine) had been committed and Aldine had a 21-point lead. But Memorial would not go away quietly. The Mustangs in red came out fired up with a strong defense and steady offense. Aldine responded with a tenacious full-court press that generated some transition baskets. Emotions ran strong during the second half and both teams began to show a little frustration. But when the final buzzer sounded, they all left it all on the court. Aldine forward Gary Johnson led all scorers with 30 points. Brandon Williams had 14, while Andre Sharp cashed in 11. For Memorial, Jackson Kajander and Matthew Staff both ended the game with eight points. Tuesday, Aldine will host Stratford and Memorial will travel to Northbrook. Both games are set for 7 p.m.
