Varsity
After a win Tuesday against Orange, Santa Ana Valley traveled to play El Modena Thursday afternoon.  Scoring from both teams remained close in the first half of play.  However, in the third period El Modena locked in their offense and began to gain a lead over Valley. Going into the fourth period, El Modena had obtained a 10-7 lead.

Down by six goals late in the fourth, Valley struggled to get open opportunities to score.  Despite their efforts, Valley was not successful in an attempt to close the gap that lurked between them and taking home a victory.  El Modena’s Kaitlin Borden and Karla Bryant played a fierce offense and executed well on the defensive end which helped secure their teams’ lead.

“This game was pretty rough” Valley junior point Rocio Cantoran commented. “They weren’t physical, but they were tough.”

El Modena won with a final score of 15-9.  Marilynn Aguilar led Valley scoring with four goals, while Karla Bryant led El Modena with seven.

On Tuesday El Modena will play Villa Park on at 4:00pm, and Santa Ana Valley will battle Magnolia at 3:15pm.

Junior Varsity
When assuming the differences between varsity and junior varsity, one must be careful not to believe that the level of intensity in the game will vary.

The El Modena verses Valley junior varsity game Thursday afternoon gathered much attention and cheer as the game remained close throughout.  The first period ended with El Modena in a 2-1 lead against Valley.  Despite their efforts at gaining and maintaining a lead, Valley continued to stay down by one goal at the end of the second and third periods.

Going into the fourth, El Modena led 8-7. Fans were on the edge of the bleachers during the last period, since no team had a definite lead it was either team’s victory to grasp.  Valley was shut out of scoring in the fourth, because El Modena ignited their defense and blocking which allowed them to remain ahead.  El Modena won the game 9-7, due to an aggressive push in the fourth period.

Notable El Modena players Alex Walker and Ashley Lamhouffer led scoring for the game with three goals each.
