Reel Action

Rugby kicked off it's season as the St. Thomas Eagles took on the Westside Wolves at the Eagles Stomping ground. It was a cold and windy night but the action on the field heated up the crowd.

The Junior Varsity teams met first at 5 o'clock to open the season. The Wolves put up good effort but it just wasn't enough for the speed of the Eagles. The half left Westside behind 19-0. St. Thomas' strategies seemed to uphold throughout the game as they took the win 43-5.

The Varsity teams followed the JV with another exciting match. Blue started off winning the ball in the first scrum, however white recovered quickly. Within the first few minutes of the game they managed to score their first try.

Westside held St. Thomas with tight defense and quick reactions, however their offense wasn't quite pulling through.Unlike football, in rugby  all players have the ability to run, kick, pass, and score. Despite Westside's efforts, the Eagles took the half with a 20-0 lead. The second half the Wolves stepped up and put effort toward  a more offensive approach. Although Westside seemed to be coming around, it wasn't enough to render St. Thomas' lead. The final score of the match was 27-0, St. Thomas.

Lead Scorers for the game were Conor Mills with 7 points.  Brian Merka, Patrick Simmons, and Elliot Bush all with one try.
