El Modena hosted El Dorado at the Fred Kelly stadium Monday evening at 5pm.  For El Modena, a victory in this game would mean they have secured first place in the league.

In the first half of the game, both teams had a difficult time trying to score the opening goal of the game.  Heavy on their offensive passing, El Modena maintained possession of the ball for long periods of time throughout the game while El Dorado had difficulty on the defensive end. 

After a lengthy scoring drought in the game, El Dorado led the way with the first goal which was seen as monumental in this low scoring match up.

Despite being down by one, El Modena continued to keep their offense tight, but clearly still had trouble securing a goal.  Not long before the first half ended, El Modena midfielder Miguel Palacios aggressively went up for a shot, scored, and in an instant El Modena is right back in the game with a half time tie of 1-1.

Soon after the second half began, El Modena midfielder Stevie Orejel made a goal which now put his team up by one.  Just as a scoring drought characterized the beginning of the game, the second half was similar.  Orejel’s goal was the last one of the game which ended in El Modena’s 2-1 victory over El Dorado. 

The offensive patience and persistence that El Modena displayed clearly helped them in Monday’s victory.  Despite being down in the first half and missing many goals throughout the game, El Modena maintained solid passing and ball possession which helped them in the end.

“We always say that we have to have possession in order to score.” El Modena coach Brian Kleiban commented.

This aggressive yet steady offensive strategy did lead El Modena on their way to securing first place in the league.  For their next game on Wednesday, El Dorado will play at Tustin HS at 3pm, while El Modena will host Villa Park at Fred Kelly stadium at 7pm.
