Tuesday night as the wind began to pick up speed, so did players on the soccer field. The boys and girls of Spring Woods defeated MacArthur as they met on Tully's turf.
The boys started off the night with fierce aggression and intensity. Woods earned a 2-0 lead heading into halftime with goals by Christian Martinez and Ismael Perez .
MacArthur picked up the pace and responded with with a beautiful goal by Juan Barreras. Later in the half, with only a few minute left, a crucial penalty was called, it was on Woods' inside the box, MacArthur's forward to attempt a penalty kick. It was all up to the goalie in this nail-bitting situation.
Both coaches were on their toes, to everyones surprise Irvin Martinez made an amazing block to give the Tigers the game. The final score was 2-1.
The MacArthur girls put up a strong defense, but it wasn't enough for the Tigers' outstanding team unity. Their efforts resulted in a 3-1 lead by halftime.
In the second half, it looked like the Tigers half-time talk kept them pepped up. They scored 3 more goals to increase their lead and take the game 6-1.
Lead Scorers for the game were Maddie Donaldson with 3, Maddie Zerbe with 2, and Catherine Janda with 1 for Spring Woods. For MacArthur, Araceli Ruiz with 1.
