Ike hosted the Stratford Spartans Friday night in a game that kept the crowd on the edge of their seats the entire game. The Spartans were the first to put up 2 but a tough defense kept Ike off the board for the first three minutes of the game.

Ike’s Jazman Reynolds broke the drought from the free throw line as he sank both free throws. Stratford seemed to find a team rhythm midway through the first period but fell victim to moving violations and turnovers. However, Stratford’s Milum drained a three and William White grabbed a steal that sparked the pace and momentum of the game.

Don’t miss the Reel Action footage of Jason Guiton sinking a three pointer from mid- court to put the Eagles to within one point at the end of the first period. 14-13.

The second period was no less dramatic, as the first minutes of game seemed to be an all-out track meet. Ike was tough on the defense, but not tough enough to keep Milum from draining another three to push Stratford up by six points at the 4-minute marker.

As was characteristic of Ike throughout the game, the Eagles responded to pressure by moving into action and putting up points. The Eagle fan base was enthusiastic and encouraged their team to push harder.

Going into the half four points behind, 28-24, the Eagles had managed to keep the Spartans within reach.

The third period both teams came out fired up and stepped up the intensity . Ike matched Stratford stride for stride, steal for steal and almost point for point. Falling just shy, the Eagles remained in pursuit of the Spartans, 40-37 going into the final period.

Ike pulled ahead by one point in the last 53 seconds of the game. Victory, however was not to be for the Eagles tonight as the calls fell in favor of Stratford in the final seconds. Ike came up short. It was just too little too late. Final score 53-50.

Leading scorers from Stratford were William White and Rodney Milum who dropped in 11 a piece as Brad Daniel put in 10. Leading the way for Ike was Ella Ellis with 14 points and Deiondre Whitaker with 13. Jason Guiton also dropped in nine points for the

Eagles.
With one game remaining in district play, the Spartans victory tonight really upped their chances into making it into the post season. Stratford will play Memorial on Tuesday at Memorial High School and Ike will travel to Spring Woods to take on the Tigers.
