Westbury Christian played Fort Bend Baptist this afternoon and came out victorious with a decisive 65-40 win. Both teams stared off slow as neither team reach double figures in the first quarter. The second period was fast paced which seemed to favor Westbury Christian as they earned the lead going into halftime. Fort Bend looked strong in the third quarter as they decreased their deficit, however the Wildcats were too much to handle in the end.
Leading scorer for Westbury Christian was Jeff Francis with 18 points as Rye Olsen dropped in 12. Leading the way scorers for Fort Bend were Joe Brown with 14 and Rico Nelson with 11.
Second Baptist and Houston Christian battled out another nail biter Monday night at Episcopal High School. The Eagles beat the Mustangs earlier in the season with a last second shot and they were looking for revenge. However, the Eagles were not going down without a fight.
It looked promising for Houston Christian in the beginning as they held an 11-point lead during the second quarter. The Eagles found their rhythm for the first time late in the second period when they rallied an 8-0 run to end the first half. 23-20 Mustangs at half.
The Eagles didn’t lose a step in the second half as point guard Ryan Maag got hot from behind the arc and knocked down some three-point shots. The Eagles contained the lead through the majority of the second half, but the Mustangs did not go down easily. Down by three, making a late push, the Mustangs had a tough setback with a technical foul that gave the Eagles some free throws. The Eagles got the ball back and earned a 47-43 victory.
Second Baptist and Westbury Christian will play for the district championship tomorrow 7:30 at Second Baptist.
