Dirty Bay went on a 3-1 fourth quarter run to clinch the Jalapeno League girls Division I 18-and-under championship with a 12-8 win over Lone Star on Monday at Strake Jesuit.

Madison Pepper led Dirty Bay with six goals.

“I think we played really well,” she said. “We always play good as a team when it’s close. We just brought it and we won when it counted.”

Dirty Bay got goals from Amy Olsen and two from Pepper to lead 3-1 after the first quarter.

Lone Star tied the game at 5 at halftime, but Dirty Bay came back to take a 8-7 lead after Eunice Alaniz, Laurel Pinkley and Pepper scored.

“We were a little frustrated,” Dirty Bay coach T.J. Markiewicz said. “We had some opportunities to put the game away early, but in the end we won so it’s all history now.”

In the boys Division I title game, Cy-Fair’s offense kicked into gear and the defense held tight as they held off Clear Creek 15-11.

“The kids played tough defense all the way around from the beginning of the game til the end,” Cy-Fair coach Jeff Chandler said. “We had some scoring opportunities at the beginning of the game that we put away to get a good lead and we were able to sub to keep up the defensive pressure the whole game.”

Heading into the third with a one-point lead, Cy-Fair scored five goals to grab a 11-7 lead.

In the fourth, Zach Walden, Elliot Jern and Eric Doyle all scored to give Cy-Fair a comfortable lead.

Jackson Gould and Doyle combined for six goals in the winning effort.

“Jackson Gould is just an all-around great player,” Chandler said. “Doyle, there’s no one that can guard him one-on-one so it makes nice to have an outside, inside game.”
