The Cy-Falls Eagles and the Westside Wolverines left it all on the court Friday night as each team played their hearts out to the end. However, the Wolves pulled off a 60-51 victory to advance to the regional quarterfinals next weekend.

The Wolves started off slow and couldn’t seem to find their offensive rhythm in the first half, allowing the Golden Eagles to take a 33-29 lead heading into halftime.

Westside’s Coach Gillesp somehow got a message across to him team at halftime as the Wolves looked like a whole new team in the second half.

“All I asked them was if they wanted to practice tomorrow,” said Gillesp.

That was all that was needed to make the Wolves howl. They started the third period in a full court press and forced several turnovers to allow them several scoring opportunities. Westside had no problem converting their defensive efforts into points on the board. However, with the game tied at 37, both teams hit an offensive skid that kept the game deadlocked until late in the third quarter.

With just under two minutes remaining in the third period, the Wolves went on a 6-2 run to grasp a 43-39 lead heading into the final period.

The Golden Eagles were never able to overcome that deficit and Westside went on to earn the victory in a well played game by both teams.

“I give all the credit to Cy-Falls,” explained Gillesp. “They are the best we have seen all year.”

Gillesp explained it wasn’t that his team was playing bad in the first half, but it was more Cy-Falls not allowing them to run their game plan.

The Leading scorers for the Lady Wolves were Sydney Colson who dropped in a game high of 24 points as teammate Alysha Adams dropped in 10. The Eagles had three players in double figures with Marci Trogus scoring 12, Tiffany Leal scoring 11, and Kim Daily scoring 10.

The Wolves will face the formidable Lady Cougars of Cinco Ranch who knocked off Nimitz 55-33 Friday night.
