The Nimitz Cougars and the Westside Wolves squared off Thursday night in the second game of a double header at the Campbell Center.
Nimitz took charge from the beginning with an intense full court press defense that caused several Westside turnovers. However, Nimitz struggled with their fair share of turnovers in the first quarter as well. It wouldn’t be that way in the second quarter, though.
The Cougars found their offensive rhythm, but largely due to their defense. The Nimitz defense kept up the intensity and caused more Westside turnovers, which led to some easy fast break points. The Cougars earned a 39-21 lead going into halftime.
The first half was similar to the second half as Nimitz shut down the Wolf pack with their hard-core defense. The Cougars kept Westside out of the game the entire second half and went on to earn a decisive 92-77 victory.
Leading scorers for the Cougars were Jasen Williams with 25 as Dailon Wilson dropped in 18. Leading the way for the Wolf pack was Shannon Shorter with 23 and Roderick Gunter with 15.
