The Cy-Falls Golden Eagles and the Bellaire Cardinals faced off in the area playoffs Friday night at Delmar Arena.

The game stayed close in the first half, but the Golden Eagles were in control as they sustained a 4-6 point lead through the majority of the first two quarters. They took a 30-24 lead heading into halftime.

Both teams came out hot in the second half as both scored on their first few possessions. Again Cy-Falls stayed in control and did not let the Cardinals chop away at their lead. They nearly went basket for basket in the third period, but the Eagles were able to add to their lead heading into the final quarter. 49-42.

Bellaire stepped up their defense in the fourth quarter with a full court press that caused some Eagle turnovers. The Cardinals were able to capitalize as they brought the game within two with just under three minutes left.

Cy-Falls jumped their lead back up to four with under two minutes remaining, but again the Cardinals were right there to get that basket back. Cy-Falls controlled a two-point lead with 50 seconds remaining on the clock. Bellaire set up their offense but was unable to convert a bucket for the tie, however there was still time remaining on the clock.

The Cardinals quickly fouled to send Cy-Falls to the foul line for a one-and-one shooting penalty. The Eagles shot one of two to keep it a one-possession game with seven seconds remaining in the game. The Cardianls would have one last chance to knock down a three pointer to send it in to overtime. Again the Cardinals were unable to convert, securing a 60-57 victory for the Golden Eagles.

Devin Gibson led the way for the Golden Eagles with 13 points and seven rebounds as teammate Josh Phillips chipped in 12 points and seven rebounds.

For Bellaire it was guard Jason Smith leading the way for the Cardinals with 13 points as guard Cameron Wells added 14.
