The Regional Semifinals took place Friday night at the Campbell Center. The lady Wolves from Westside took on the Longhorns from Dobie. Early fouls took place within in the first five seconds, which would set the tone for a physical match up between the two teams.

Dobie’s defense in the first quarter created problems for Westside but Westside reacted by applying full court press to slow them down. By the end of the first quarter Dobie had the lead with a score of 12-6. Westsides’ press began to work in the second quarter creating steals and allowing them to catch up and put points on the board. This did not slow down the Longhorns though, because with each shot Westside made Dobie would answer back with their own. Westsdie was able to finish the half with a one-point lead of 26-25.

In the third quarter the Wolves started playing even harder and Dobie was having trouble connecting their shots this put Westside up 36-30 going into the fourth quarter. The fourth quarter started with an early steal by Sydney Colson of Westside and the Wolves once again began full court press. Fouls became apparent in this last quarter and got Westside into trouble with seven fouls with four minutes left in the game. These non-shooting fouls brought Dobie to the free throw line but not being able to hit all their foul shots and slow Westside down gave the Wolves the victory with a final score of 49-42.

Sydney Colson was the high scorer for Westside with 26 points followed by Donna Dike with 6 points. The Longhorns’ Karima Christams led her team with 19 points and Briandrea Williams had 7 points.

Westside will play Cy-Fair in the Regional Finals Saturday February 24 at the Campbell Center.
