The Nimitz Cougars have had an unfortunate turn of events regarding their men’s basketball playoff run. After coming off a huge 74-72 victory over Hastings on Saturday, it was reported that the Cougars would have to forfeit their win because of an ineligible player.
The unmentioned player did not meet the grade requirements set forth by the UIL to compete in the game on Saturday. Nimitz coach Randy Gilmer admitted not catching the grade that would cause his player to be ineligible. He said he just accidentally overlooked the grade and feels bad that the kids have to suffer.
This is an unfortunate event for the Cougars, but Hastings will have a new playoff berth. They will face the Cy-Falls Golden Eagles tonight at the Berry Center at 7 p.m.
Hastings coach Jonnie Carter shared his condolences for what happened but is looking forward to making the most of their second chance.
