Tuesday night at the Berry Center, the Region 3-5A boys basketball quarter finals took place. The Cypress Falls Eagles played against the Hastings Fighting Bears. This was an anticipated game especially for Hastings where they received a second chance at the playoffs due to Nimitz playing with an ineligible player on Thursday.
The first quarter started off fast paced with a classic street ball feeling. Each team exchanged baskets and ran the court and converted transition baskets. But going into the half, Hastings started to pull away and went into the lockeroom with a 41-25 lead.
At the start of the third quarter, Cypress Falls came out strong going on a 7-0 run against Hastings. The Bears saw the Eagles rallying and countered their seven-point run by engaging in a full court press. This slowed Cypress Falls down enough to continue to hold on to a lead at the end of the third quarter with a score of 60-42.
Hastings owned the fourth quarter as the Bears continued to play unified basketball and came out with an 84-61 win.
Each team had several players score in double figures. The Fighting Bears had their two star players score 18 points, B.J. Holmes and P.J. Alawoya.
For Cypress Falls, Josh Phillips had 25 points, Isaac Richardson had 15 points, and Devin Gibson came out with 12 points.
