The Kinkaid Falcons hosted the Clear Lake Lady Falcons Thursday in an early evening lacrosse match.
Kinkaid jumped out to a 2-0 lead early in the first half with goals by Julie Mackay and Caitlin Daily. Clear Lake fired back as Driver put in a goal to bring the Clear Lake Falcons within one. However, Julia Mackay was unstoppable for Kinkaid as she was able to drop in another two goals in the first half. Kinkaid’s Sarah Atnipp and Clear Lake’s Wiggington also dropped in a goal a piece which gave Kinkaid a 5-2 lead heading into halftime.
After the halftime break, Clear Lake came out with a strong offensive presence and narrowed the gap to bring the game within two. 7-5.
A much-needed time out by Kinkaid allowed the team to regroup and figure out their new game plan. The plans from the huddle worked as it gave Kinkaid the opportunity to allow Mackay to drop in three more of her eight goals in the match. Kinkaid went on to win by a final score of 10-5.
Wiggington and Driver each scored two goals for Clear Lake and Ormsby scored one.
“I was really proud of our play tonight,” said Kinkaid coach Martha Brousseau. “I was pleased with our patience on the offensive end, and our communication on defense has really improved.”
Julia Mackay played an outstanding game with eight goals and one assist to lead her team to victory.
“She is a terrific athlete who brings a lot of intensity to the field,” explained Brousseau.
Kinkaid will host Bellaire next Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.
