The Lady Mustangs soccer team improved their record to 11-0-1 in district play Tuesday night with a 3-0 win over the Macarthur Generals.
The Mustangs dominated ball control keeping play on their side of the field for the majority of the game. Caroline Tricoli and Morgan Zabel were able to sink a goal a piece in the first half to give the Mustangs a 2-0 lead going into halftime.
The Mustang defense dominated and allowed the Generals few shots on goal. They shut out the Generals in the first half as well as the second. Rebekah Carl finished off the Generals with a goal in the second half to put the Mustangs up 3-0. Brynne Walker contributed with two assists on the night.
Memorial’s one tie came against Stratford in their first meeting but the Mustangs pulled out the victory in their second meeting against the Spartans. Memorial’s record has earned them first place in their district with only a couple of games remaining.
Although the Mustangs dominated the game Tuesday night, they missed out on some opportunities to add more goals to their 3-0 victory.
“We have difficulty adjusting to the turf style of play,” explained Memorial coach Kim York. “We practice on grass all week and then have to adjust to playing on turf and it takes a while for the girls to get used to.”
The Mustangs will take on Nimitz Friday 5 p.m. at Aldine Middle School.
