The John Cooper School hosted the Dragon Invitational Friday and Saturday, which is the weekend prior to many schools’ Spring Break. But for the runners and athletes who attended, the thought of a weeklong vacation was not the priority as they came out in a quest for a gold medal.

In the girls team division, the Kinkaid School was victorious with 160.5 points. The Falcons traveled back to Houston with three first-place medals, four silvers, and four bronzes.

The Falcons had top finishes in the high jump, long jump, discus, 1600 sprint medley relay, 400-meter relay, 400 meter run, 800 meter run, 100-meter hurdles and the 300-meter hurdles.

Gold medal winners for the Falcons were: Angel Gibbs in 100-meter hurdles, 300-meter hurdles, and the 1600 sprint medley relay team. The relay team members were Lilian Nwora, Morgan Beeler, Laura Clegg, and Gibbs. Erin Atmar won the pole vault.

Mason Bashaw took second in the discus and third in the shot put. Katherine Bookout, Lee Simon, Emily Burke and Gibbs were the second place finishers in the 400 relay.

Falcon runners Jessica Messier (300M hurdles) and Nwora each earned silver medals. Bronze medallists were Atmar (high jump), Ginny Simon (800M), and Gibbs (long jump).

Girls team runner up, Episcopal (103) and third, Concordia Lutheran (96.5).

For the boys, St. Marks of Dallas was the overall team winner with 248.5 points. The Lions walked away with seven gold, seven silvers, and five bronze medals.

In the field events, Sam Acho (shot put-1, discus-1), Emmanuel Acho (shot put-3, discus-2), Malcolm Carradine (triple jump-1), and Terdema Ussery (high jump-1) all medalled in their respective events.

St. Marks’ relay teams fared well with first place finishes in the 800-meter relay (Shulman, Carlos Bencomo, Brian Cummiskey, Jordan Brooks), 1600-meter sprint medley (Daniel Shulman, Jacques Barjon, Stephen and Andrew Langdon), and the 400-meter relay (John Criss, Whit Shaw, Carradine, Ussery).

The 1600-meter relay (S. Langdon, Will McNutt, Daniel Plumlee, A. Langdon) and the Distance Medley (Shulman, Cummiskey, Bencomo, Barjon) both received second place.
