There may not have been many games Thursday night, but the thriller at the Second Baptist School baseball field could make up for quite a few games. The game was tied at one for majority of the game, but Second Baptist pulled out a 2-1 victory in the seventh inning.

It was the battle of the Eagles from Second Baptist and Fort Bend in an all out pitchers duel where Second Baptist’s Ross Seaton and Fort Bend’s Zac Jordan faced off.

The game’s intensity remained high throughout its entirety. The FB Eagles scored first in the top of the third inning when Jordan, after several of his teammates were walked, reached a base on a hit that brought a player home.

But the SB Eagles responded. Seaton hit a solo homer in the bottom of the fourth bringing the game to a tie score. From the fourth inning on, each team managed to get players to the bases, but none were converted to runs.

Both the fifth and the sixth innings were scoreless as these two Eagles squad were waiting for their opportunity to capitalize.

That opportunity came in the seventh inning for the SB Eagles. Second Baptist’s John Buckley reached first base on a Fort Bend error. Pinch runner Daniel Greco stole second base to put the Second Baptist team in scoring position.

With Greco on base, Cooper Smith was up to bat knowing what was on the line. On the third pitch, Smith hit a hard ball between right and center field. That was the double brought Greco home and the celebrations began.

Seaton was the winning pitcher.
