With weather in Greater Houston clearing up, it wouldn’t be long before the boys were back on the diamond. In Katy, Seven Lakes hosted Bay City in a District 24-4A game.

In a 10-inning extravaganza, the Blackcats made a late push and pulled off a 7-3 victory over the Spartans. Bay City’s Shaun Rutherford was the game’s winning pitcher.

The game stayed fairly close with both teams earning a run here and a run there. A tie ball game at the end of the seventh forced extra innings.

In the top of the ninth inning, the Blackcats scored one run. But the Spartans, led by manager Chad Payne, answered quickly with a score of their own in the bottom of the ninth.

Bay City, a team managed by Robert Rayos, really broke things open in the tenth. The Blackcats reached base with their first batter. With no outs, Bay City attempted to steal a base and was tagged out.

Blackcat designated hitter Chance Leissener was up to bat and hit the ball hard towards centerfield for a double. Pinch runner Darien Dale came in for Leissener. After a base hit by Keith Kieschnick and a wild pitch thrown, Dale reach home giving the Blackcats a 4-3 lead.

But the Bay City team was not finished. Rutherford got a base hit to bring Kieschnick home extending the Blackcat lead to two. Corey Cortez was next up and sliced a double between the Spartan defenders and earned an RBI with Rutherford touching home plate.

Travis Tomek earned the last hit of the inning when he singled to score Cortez. When the side was retired, after earning four tenth-inning runs, the Spartans had one last chance. Seven Lakes was unable to close the deficit and lost 7-3.

Bay City’s Leissener was 3-for-4 (a double and two singles) and was Blackcats leading batter. Zac Benson was also 3-for-4 (all singles).

Seven Lakes’ Jake Pinchback was the Spartans leader (2-for-4) with a double and a single. Luke Clements was 2-for-3 (all singles).

After this game, Bay City is now 1-2 while Seven Lakes is 2-1 in District 24-4A play.
